Who We Are
ArtSpoken -
A 3-piece Afro-jazz fusion ensemble located in South Africa.
Blending traditional African sounds with modern elements, the band creates what they call _Mallo music_—a sound defined by soulful melodies, poetic spoken word, rap, and uplifting praise singing. Drawing inspiration from legends like Hugh Masekela and Selaelo Selota, ArtSpoken is on a mission to revive and reimagine African jazz for a new generation. Their performances are dynamic and deeply cultural, designed to connect audiences to heritage while pushing the sound forward with contemporary energy.
The group has already made waves on major platforms, with notable performances at SA's Got Talent, the National Arts Festival, and The South African State Theatre. Emerging from the vibrant township of Soshanguve, ArtSpoken brings authenticity, storytelling, and stage presence that resonates with both local and wider audiences. As they put it, "Our music is a reflection of our heritage, our struggles, and our triumphs. We aim to inspire and uplift our audience through the power of African sounds."
Genre Name: (Mmalo Music)— An African storytelling genre combining praise singing and spoken word (Marvin). percussion and vocals (Lebogang), and original composition (Kefiloe). Derived from the word "Mmala O," representing identity, heritage, praise, and cultural expression, Mmalo Music is a contemporary African jazz sound rooted in storytelling, praise singing, indigenous rhythms, and original composition.

To establish Mmalo Music as a recognized African genre that celebrates African heritage while creating a modern sound capable of reaching global audiences.

To preserve, develop, and promote authentic African musical traditions through original composition, performance, education, and cultural storytelling.
